69TH JUNIOR NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR MEN AND WOMEN IN LUDHIANA

Kerala Men Carved the Gold after 32 Years and Women satisfied with Silver
Ludhiana, 13th May 2018: Kerala men captained by Sejin Mathew with coach Sudeep Bose of Kerala State Sports Council grabbed the Gold after a gap of 32years here for the 69th Junior National Basketball Championship for Men and Women at the Ludhiana Basketball Academy, Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana while women team had to satisfy with Silver Spot as they lost to Technically Perfect Tamil Nadu 58-77. Kerala burst in the last Quarter to beat Rajasthan 108-101 as it avenged the defeat they got in the league round.
Kerala last won the championship under the captaincy of C V sunny at Neyveli 1986-87. This was the third Title for Kerala in Junior Men Division, 1st it was in 1982 Under Unwin J Antony at Pune on both the occasions Bevin Chacko was the coach.

Kerala in the final against Rajasthan lead 28-22 when the first quarter then ended the halftime with the score of 52-49, Shanazil Muhammed was the top scorer with 29 points followed by Chacko Simon making 26 Points Mujammed Saalih with 19 and Sejin Mathew scoring 15 for Rajasthan Deepak Chowdary and Semeet Kumar scored 16 points each.
In women final Technically Perfect Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala Women 77-58 after leading 45-30 at the Interval captain Iswarya was the leading scorer for Tamil Nadu with 17 points Partibha Priya Score d15 and Senior International Pushpa Contributed 14 for the Victory Sreekala was the leading scorer doe Kerala with 14 points.
Yesterday late night semi Final Kerala Boys Stunned d favorites Punjab with the score 85-69 The match which predicted on an upper hand for Punjab didn’t come true as Kerala the start to the 3rd quarter keeping on with the slender lead , the first quarter at 18-17 and winded the first half with 37-34 lead and at the end of the 3rd Quarter with 59-57 before winning the match with an amazing performance at 85-69.
For Kerala Shanzil Muhammed was the leading scorer with 25 points followed by NBA academy graduated sejin Mathew with 20 points, Chacko C Simon with 18 and Muhammed Saliah with 15 did a wonderful performance in the Semifinal to fetch them an entry to the final. Rajeev Singh from Rajasthan and Vaishnavi Yadav from UP were awarded as the Most Valuable Player in their respective sections.
Kerala received a prize money in the tune of INR 1 lakh and Women INR 50,000 by BFI. Apart from it was a kind gesture from Adhav Arjuna Chairman of Kerala Basketball Association has also Given an additional Prize money INR 1 lakh to Jr Men and Women INR 50,000 to Jr Women I.

3rd & 4th Place:

  1. U.P(Vaishnavi 53 pts, Kavya 13 pts) bt Karnataka(Sanjana 12 pts) 72-32[14-10, 19-07, 17-10, 22-05].

Final Men:

  1. Kerala-108(Shanazil Muhammed 29 , Chacko Simon 26 , Mujammed Saalih 19 , Sejin Mathew 15 ) bt Rajasthan -101(Deepak Cowdary 16,Semeet Kumar scored 16 ).

3rd & 4th Place:

  1. Punjab(Rajan 39 pts, Jagshanbir 19 pts) bt Delhi(Aditya 27 pts) 97-44[16-11, 25-11, 29-17, 27-08].
