PUNALUR GOVT HSS GROUND ALL SET FOR THE 42ND KERALA STATE JUNIOR BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Punalur Govt HSS  is all set for the  42nd edition of the Kerala Junior State Basketball Championship for Junior Men and Junior Women which  will be organized by  Kollam District Basketball Association with the support of Punalur Municipality  and Taluk Samajam   under the auspicious of Kerala Basketball Association from April 17th – 22nd   2018

The  championship will officially get inaugurated on 17th  April 2018 by the Honourable Minister for the forest, Animal Husbandry and Zoos Adv K  Raju at a function presided by Punalur Municipal Chairman M  A Rajagopal

Dr. Prince K Mattom Secretary Kerala basketball Association will hoist the Flag.

This Six-day Championship which is a prelude to  the  68th Junior National Basketball Championship to be held at Gurunanak Indoor Stadium in Ludhiana from May 7th to 14th  2018

Apart from the Govt HSS Flood Lit Ground the second court  St Thomas English Medium School Ground in Punalur will also witness some league matches.

 All fourteen District have confirmed their participation including the defending champions Kottayam in boys and Thrissur girls divisions.The Kerala state Junior Basketball team to participate in the junior nationals will be selected from this Championship

The Championship will be played on a league cum knock out a format where the teams are divided into Four Pools with  top three teams from Pool A and B, One each from C & D will qualify for the Knock out stage

The Presence of International Sejin Mathew who was back from NBA Academy in Noida will be figuring for Pathanamthitta while Jerome Prince who represented India in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship in China will be representing Kottayam in this championship

In junior Women Section International Sree Kala R will be representing Thiruvananthapuram and Ann Mary Zacharia who will be representing Kottayam both plays for India at the FIBA Asia women U16 Championship in Bangalore

Junior Men

  1. Group A:- Kottayam, Alappuzha Thrissur, and Pathanamthitta
  2. Group B:- Ernakulum, Thiruvananthapuram,  Kozhikode and  Malappuram
  3. Group C:- Idukki, Kannur, and Wayanad
  4. Group D:- Kollam,  Palakkad &  Kasaragod

Junior Women

  1. Group A:- Thrissur, Kottayam Alapuzha and Ernakulum
  2. Group B:- Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur Kozhikode, and Idukki
  3. Group C:- Malappuram Pathanamthitta and Palakkad
  4. Group D:- Kollam, Kozhikode &  Wayanad
