PADMA SHRI C K MENON CHAMPIONS TROPHY BASKETBALL - VICTORY FOR KERALA POLICE AND CUSTOMS

Kochi Defending Champions Kerala Police and Customs and Central Excise Started with a Victory in women and Men Sections respectively here for the Padma Shri C K Menon, Champions Trophy Inter Club Basketball Championship for Men and Women at the Regional Sports Centre, Kochi. In other league match Assumption college beat St Josephs college irinjalakuda85-81 in an extra time thriller while in men Sree Kerala Varma College stunned the professional side KSEB with the score 79-72. In the women 1st Semi league match Kerala Police after leading 38-33 came on to beat SES College Seekantapuram 67-54 with Chippy Mathew leads the string with 19 points and for SES Amritha came with 21points
In the second Semifinal league Assumption college after trailing 45-59 till the end of third quarter came back strongly in the last quarter to level the score 74-74 at the regulation time before winning the match at 85-81 Kavitha Jose came as the top scorer with 25 points and was well assisted by Vinaya Joseph with 24 points and Rosemary Sajan contributing 17 while for St Josephs Angellina Sunny came top with a 29 points score and Lithara KC contributing 22. In the men division defending champions has to fight against the Youthful Cherupushpa team virtually the Territorial Army Side from Kannur after leading 36-30 at halftime before winning at 76-71 with former Internationals Manoj r 13pts ,Eudric perrera 12pts and Basil Philiph 11 pts combing well along with Shinu Mon Augustine 12pts to Put Customs victorious and for cherupushpa tins Thomas came as the topper with 20 points.
In the second Men league match KSEB last year runner-up was stunned by the college lads from Thrissur Sree Kerala Varma College with the score 78-72 with Antony Johnson came up with 29 points and Grigo Mathew with 20 and for KSEB Indian camper Gineeb Benny contributed 22 points.
