FASHIONED VICTORY FOR KERALA WOMEN AND STAY UNBEATEN IN GROUP A MEN IN TO THE PRE QUARTER

Mysuru, 13th January 2016: Kerala women Stay unbeaten in Group A as they went on to beat Telangana in a fashioned way with the score of 72-46, but the men team which was handicapped by a center player went down fighting to a taller Indian railways with the score 70-84 after leading 63-62 till the end of 3rd quarter here for the 66th Senior National Basketball Championship for men and women in Mysuru. Kerala women will now take on the winners of Punjab and Rajasthan in the quarter-final

In the league match in the women which two unbeaten sides met to decide the group topper Kerala started off in good style with leading the first quarter with 26-10 and was again top scored by Jeena with 20 points followed by Stephy making 14 and Neenumol with 13 Shilji also contributing 11 points for the victory

In the men, last league match Kerala played against a much taller outfit of Indian Railways lead 31-26 in the first quarter and even lead till 8 minutes to go for the final whistle .The absence of taller players in the side forced them to play with four of their players on four fouls which in fact helped Indian railways the victory and Kerala the chance to play a quarter-final directly and the result force them to play the pre-quarter final. Eudric Perera was the top scorer for Kerala with 16 points followed by Monish with 14

In an another exciting women match Tamil Nadu women defeating Karnataka in a double overtime thriller on a late match yesterday Gaining confidence on that thrilling victory, the Tamil Nadu women handily defeated Punjab 57-37 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Punjab women have sneaked through to the pre-quarterfinals knocking out hosts Karnataka on the basis of the head-to-head record between the two teams, rendering the result of today evening’s match between Karnataka and the Indian Railways women inconsequential. Maharashtra women are also through to the pre-quarterfinals with a win against Madhya Pradesh today morning. West Bengal and Rajasthan women will also battle it out in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the men’s section, the undefeated Tamil Nadu (Group B) and Punjab (Group A) teams have qualified to the quarterfinals along with the Services (Group B) and Indian Railways (Group A). The fourth placed Kerala men’s team from Group B are through to the pre-quarterfinals, where they will be joined by Chhattisgarh and Gujarat from Level 2. The remaining three spots from men’s Group B are still up for grabs depending on the outcome of today’s games.

In the qualifying matches among the pre-quarterfinalists for the level 2 teams, West Bengal women beat Rajasthan and they have decided to play Maharashtra in the pre-quarterfinal. Gujarat men defeated Chhattisgarh in their decider match, as they are yet to chose their pre-quarterfinal opponent.
