KERALA WOMEN IN TO THE FINALS MEN TO PLAY FOR THE 5TH SPOT

Puducherry, 13th January 2017: Kerala women defeated Chattaissgargh 72-70 to Meet Telangana who stunned Indian railways 56-74 while the Men rather an young output defeated Karnataka 71-40 to play for the 5th Spot against Haryana on Day 7 of the 67th Senior National Basketball Championship here at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Puducherry.

In the women Semifinal Kerala had their own plan to curtail 6 ft 11 inches Poonam Chaturvedi in absence of International Stephy Nixon who was not in the team but managed some way other for this Victory into the final Kerala who trailed 16-23 in the first quarter came back strongly through substitute Grima and Anjana and lead the First half with 40-34 and ended the 3rd quarter with 68-51 before winning it at 72- 70 Jeena PS was the top scorer along with Anjana PG with 20 points each. Poojamol and grima Contributed 12 and 10 points fo Chhattisgarh Poonam made 36.

The other women semi-final was in fact a match between two railways as the Indian railway team was stunned by Telangana virtually the South Central Railway team who is also making the first debutant Final for Telangana as they beat Indian Railways 71-40 with Gayathri who was omitted from the railway side came as the top scorer for Telangana with 29 points and Tritty mol the Keralite was good in defence and contributed 10 points for the Victory for Indian railways malyalee Sruthy menon came up as the top scorer with 15 points.

In the Men 1st semi-final, Utharkhand defeated Punjab 78-53 to Meet the winners of Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan in the final. Men Second Semi Final Tamil Nadu beat Rajasthan 108-77
