ALL OVER KERALA CELEBRATES THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF BASKETBALL 30 DAY COUNT DOWN FOR THE KERALA HOOPATHON

Dec 22nd Tiruvalla- It was Dec. 21, 1891 when Dr. James Naismith posted his original 13 rules the wall of the YMCA Training School at Sherman and State streets in Springfield, Mass., and he had no earthly idea what he was starting. Now It has been 125 years since Dr. James Naismith climbed a ladder and nailed the first peach basket on a wall inside the Armory Street court in Springfield, Mass.,

It also will Mark as the Countdown to the Mega Kerala Hoopathon on Jan 20th, 2017 making live 125 Basketball Courts over the State participating 12500 kids into Basketball to score 12,5000 points on a day.

Kottayam YMCA lead the celebration at Kottayam as it also celebrates 125 years

In Kerala Basketball incidentally the first Basketball Court was laid at Kottayam 90 years back. The veteran Players and coaches went the extra mile to spread the word about the event to all basketball alumni and Kottayam YMCA along with REBOUND and Kottayam District Basketball Association celebrates this today starting with a Shooting Competition at the YMCA CMS Valley Sports Complex followed by Quasquicentenary rally which was flagged off by the president Abraham Kurian Palampadam and culminated at YMCA hall with a Basketball Sangamam .honouring the past former players of the YMCA

Mohammed Iqbal the former International president REBOUND believes that the event is important for more reasons as he was born and bought up from YMCA Kottayam than just celebrating the 125th anniversary of basketball.

“I think it’s important to have an event that not only honors the anniversary of the game but one that also honors all the former members of the basketball program,” he said. “When you have a chance to bring everyone back, it’s a truly special opportunity for all of us.”

All 14 districts of Kerala joined the celebrations former players joined hands with the support of the District Units

In the capital, Kerala Speaker Sree Ramakrishna Joined the celebration at museum ground along with YMCA Trivandrum and at Ernakulam at Regional Sports center Joined with REBOUNDERS and Ernakulum District Basketball Association and In Kozhikode Manchira Maidan Inaugurated by District Sports council Secretary matai . In Palakkad Internationals T K Sheshadri,VV Harilala and Renny lead Celebrations

In Allapuzha along with YMCA, Sri Thomas J fen former International coach and Referee Little Flower HSS Koratty in Thrissur, Shanthal jyothi Public School in Muttam, Idukki, Nehru College at Kanghagad in Kasargod, St Marys HSS Mullankolly in Wayanad, Kannur Sports Division in Kannur were among the canters which joined the celebrations

The day will be filled with exciting events, but for most attendees, they are just happy to see some old friends and share the memories
