INDIA LOSE IN QUARTERFINALS TO DEFENDING CHAMPS IRAN. WILL PLAY CLASSIFICATION GAMES AGAINST JAPAN

16th September 2016: India Lost to two-time defending champions Iran 47-77 in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran, Iran. India now will play the first of its two 5 to 8 classification matches against Japan’. While in other quarter final matches Iraq upset China with the score 85-79 and will take on Korea who scrape past Chinese Taipei 70-69 in the Semi-Final while Irian will meet Jordan who defeated Japan 87-80.
India after fighting hard in the first half ended the first quarter trailing 14-18 and ended the first half with trailing 31-38. Hosts Iran blew it wide open in the third quarter allowing India to score only 2 points against 26 Iran had an unanswered 21 point run stretching in this quarter and to win 77-47, to ease into the semis.
Irans Physical defence forced Amritpal Singh, power forward Amjyot Singh had a bad percentage of 15 % of Free game shooting in this match and the shooting guard Vishesh Bhriguvanshi was the only player for India with a double figure score as he scored 14 points while Iran’s rock solid ex-NBA veteran Hamed Haddadi had yet another dominant performance in this tournament making 17 points and 23 rebounds
