TEHRAN (2016 FIBA Asia Challenge) – India beat Philippines 91-83 to registered their first Victory in the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge basketball on day 1 here at the Twelve Thousand People Sport Hall, located in the north & south of the main street of the Azadi Sport Complex Tehran
India e which trailed 25-16, in the first quarter came back strongly in the second quarter scoring 31-21 to take India with the lead 47-46 in the first half , India further in the third quarter increased it to 68-58, but a last quarter effort from Philippines could not help them to win the match
India Used the trio Amjot, Amarjoth and Vishesh fulltime in this match as Amjyoth Sing was the leading scorer for India with 24 points and 18 rebounds followed by Vishesh Brighuvanshi scoring 20 and captain Amarjoth Singh making 16 and T J Shahi and Sivakumar contributed 15 and 10 points respectively for India’s victory
India which finished 7th in the last edition 2014 had also defeated Philippines 70-66 repeated the feat again over here now without much rest have to face Chinese Thai Pai on day 2
All Three (3) teams from each group advance to the second phase. For the Second Round, the twelve (12) teams will be divided into two (2) groups of six (6). Each team will play against the three (3) new teams in its group then 4 teams from each group will now advance to the quarter final which will play on a Knockout format
