MIXED FORTUNE FOR KSEB IN FINAL

Thiruvalla – 14 Feb 2016 It was a mixed fortune for Kerala State Electricity Board Thiruvananthapuram in the final as their women retained the women title beating Kerala police 61-39 while the men were stunned by Kerala Police with the score of 80-72 here for the 15th edition of the All Kerala Champions Trophy Inter Club Basketball Championship here at the St Thomas Flood Lit Basketball Ground in Kurianoor. Kerala Police Men now will qualify for the 30th edition of Federation Cup National Basketball for Men and Women to be held in Goa from 9-14, March 2016.

The women final was a close encounter till the second quarter with the score of 22-20 but the defending champion KSEB who were handicapped by their two Internationals Jeena PS & Stephy Nixon who were in Guwahati took lead to 18-11 at the end of first half and lead 40-33 at the end of the 3rd Quarter before winning it at 61-39 for KSEB their current International Anjana PG again came as the top scorer with 22 points followed by Shilji George with 15 for Police Athira came up with 13points.

The Men final was also an closely contested one as Kerala Police took a slender one-point lead in the first quarter later on increased the lead to end up the first half with 42-32 but EB men recharged their energy in the 3rd quarter and reduced the lead to a 3point deficit but police charged back strongly in the last quarter to finish the game in their favour Sreejith was the top scorer for Police with 28 points and evenly supported by Jomon Jose and Jijo Thankachan scoring 27 and 15 points respectively Ajeeth Sugunan lead the Board in front scoring 22points from the paint.
