THE SENIOR INDIAN TEAM LEAVES FOR WILLIAM JONES CUP WILL HAVE THREE MALAYALEES

The Indian Senior Men’s National Team coached by Malayalees P J Sebastian & C V Sunny, is all set to represent the country at the 38th William Jones Cup International Basketball Tournament 2016, to be held in New Taipei City, Taiwan (Republic of China) from the 23rd to 31st July.

India, will participate in the event with a combination of the young players and experienced. The final roster will have one Malayalee Basil Philip of Central Excise Kochi

The team will be lead by centre Amritpal Singh, and forward Amjoth Singh duo returning from winning the National Basketball Developmental League (NBDL) Championship with Toyko Excellence in Japan Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, (ONGC) Talwinderjit Singh & Arshpreet Bhullar (Punjab), Akilan Pari, Rikin Pethani (both Income Tax, Chennai) Aravind Annadurai & Prasanna Venkatesh (Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai). Basil Philip (Central Customs & Excise, Kochi) and Arvind Arumugam (Vijaya Bank, Bengaluru) Ravi Bhardwaj (Chandigarh)

It was a chance for the Indian team to gain valuable exposure ahead of the FIBA Asia Challenge to be held from September 9 to 18 in Tehran Iran. The tournament which will also serve as the first step in determining the process of the qualifiers for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup which will feature teams from both FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania for the first time.

The William Jones Cup is an invitational nine-team tournament, featuring a mix of national sides from China, Japan, Iran, Egypt & Korea, club sides from Philippines, and a University team from the U.S.A India has been invited back to the tournament after a gap of 11 years.”

 

 

 

The matches will be played in a round-robin league format, with each team playing 8 matches. The team with the best record will be crowned champions.
