Kasargod 15th April 2016 :- The Honorable MP of Kasragosd P Karunakaran inaugurated the 40th edition of the Kerala Junior State Basketball Championship for Junior Men and Junior Women which was organised by Kasargod District Basketball Association under the auspicious of Kerala Basketball Association her at the Newly Built Pilicode Panchayath Maidan in Kalikadavu, Kasargod. This five day Championship which is a prelude to the 67th Junior National Basketball Championship to be held at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Pondicherry from 1-8 May 2016 was held on two basketball courts apart from the New stadium Govt HSS Pilicode also witness some league matches . All fourteen District are having participation including the defending champions Thiruvananthapuram (boys) and Thrissur (girls). The Kerala state Junior Basketball team to participate in the junior nationals will be selected from this Championship.

The Championship will be played on a league cum knockout format where the teams are divided into Four Pools with top three teams from Pool A and B, One each from C & D will qualify for the Knock out stage. On the inaugural day kottayam teams had a good run as their boys defeated Malapuram 38-10 while the girls had an easy victory over Pathanamthitta with the score 37-7 and in other matches in Junior men division Thriisue beat Kozhikode 41-10,Kannur beat Wayanad 41-16,Pathanamthitta beat Palakkad 50-24 while in Junior Women wayanad beat Kasargod 23-6,Kannur defeated Alapuzha 32-12.
