Carmel Stadium Aluva All Set for the 18th Champions Trophy Basketball Inter Club Basketball Championship
Tiruvalla- Aluva carmel Stadium is All again Set for the 18th Edition of the Champions Trophy Inter club Basketball Championship for Men and Women, from February 20th to 24th 2019
The five day tournament championship, where the teams from Kerala for the 33rd Federation Cup Basketball Championship, will be selected, is organised jointly by the Ernakulam District Basketball Association (EDBA), Team Rebound ,Carmel club Aluva and Regional Sports Centre (RSC) under the auspices of Kerala Basketball Association
The tourney will have the participation of nine men’s teams and seven women’s teams.
While the champion club of the men’s competitions would represent Kerala at the forthcoming Federation cup Basketball Championship , the State’s women’s team for the championship would be selected on the basis of the individual performances of the players from the tournament.
In the men’s section, besides the title holders Customs & Central Excise, KSEB, Kerala Police ,Sree Kerala Varma College Thrissur with host Carmel Club Aluva and some of the leading clubs ad college teams of the state would vie for honors. The title challenge on the distaff side would be led by last year’s winners Kerala Police then the favourites KSEB Thiruvanthapuram , Assumption College, Changanassery, St Josephs College Irinjalakuda as well as Alapuzha ,SES college Sreekantapuram and Local out fit Roshans 7 star Aluva
From last year onwards championship, new trophies are instituted in memory of four basketball stalwarts of yesteryears, namely Prince Chandy, John Casimir, Chandrasekharan Nair and Betty Chacko. An array of other awards also awaits players. Apart from former trophies in memory of Dr Mathew Roy , ML Edwin, K Zacharia and B Sathyanath
An organising committee has been constituted for streamlining the activities of the tournament under the chairmanship of S A S Navaz (IRS, Retd), the Secretary of the RSC. Adv. Saleem.K A (Secretary, EDBA) and Ajikumar Nair ( Secretary, Team Rebound ) are the conveners of the committee.
The championship will be inaugurated by Anwar Sadath MLA at 6 pm, on Wednesday February 20th 2019.
The final of the championship is scheduled for 6 pm start on Sunday February 24th 2019 .
The Chief Guest will be Arjuna Awardee Geethu Anna Rahul
