AUSTRALIA , JAPAN , KOREA AND CHINA CONFIRMED THE PLACE IN KNOCK OUT PHASE JEENA AND ANJANA HELPED INDIA TO PUT UP A BETTER PERFORMANCE AGAINST KOREA

Bengaluru :  Defending Champion Japan defeated Chinese Taipei (78-49), Australia defeated New Zealand (82-44) and China beat Philippians (104-57) and Korea beat India (97-62) with their second straight victory and are unbeaten in their  groups and confirmed a place in the Knock out  phase  here for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2019 at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

India dished out a much-improved performance against South Korea before falling 62-97 in their second Group A match in the Division.Forward An Jin stole the show for the Koreans, with 21 points and nine rebounds while Hyeuoon Bae (14 points), Leeseul Kang (13) and Seul Ku (12) also made valuable contributions. Jeena P S  top-scored for India with 14 points while Anjana P G chipped in with nine.

India started the match with a 12-2 in the first 5 minutes  and lead 22-20 at the end of 1st quarter Koreans made a tremendous comeback in the second quarter, claiming 24 points to go ahead 44-28. In complete command of the play now, the Koreans kept extending their lead. They were 74-43 after the third quarter. India got past the 50-point mark in the fourth, but to no avail.

On Thursday, India must defeat Chinese Taipei to avoid the relegation play-off match.

Australia making use of their full bench lead 43-25 at the half time Ezi Magbegor lead the scoring with 14 and Darcee Garbeen made 13 and Cayala George who played 19 minutes was the most efficient player with 9 rebounds with four assists and a Steal and scored 8 points.

The Second match of the day Japan after an closly fought first half lead 33-27 at the half  time increased the pace of the game in the second half and beat Chinese Taipei 78-49 with and Ramu Takashid was the leading contributor with 19 points 11 rebounds 3 assists,2 Steals and 3 blocks and was well assisted by captain Maki Takada also contributing 19 points 8 rebounds.

These two teams Australia and Japan now will play their last group match against China and Korea respectively and the winners will play the semi-final while the loser have to play for qualification game to the Semi final.

In group B China had an easy game over Philippians and won their second consecutive  game with the score 104-57, Han Xu, the 19-year old 6’9” center who has also been playing in the WNBA with the New York Liberty this season lead the stats efficiency with 10 points 11 rebounds 6 assists 2 steals and 3 blocks, Mingling Chen was the leader in scoring with 21 points.

Korea-97 (An Jin 21,Hyeyoon Bae 14, Leeseul Kang 13, Seul Ku 12, Hyejin Park 11, Mnjeong Kim 11, Jihyun Park 10) beat India-62 (Jeena P S 14, Anjana P G 9, Madhukumari 8)22-20,8-24,15-30,19-23).
