Kerala Basketball Association to Conduct Referees Clinic at St. Ephrem’s HSS, Mannanam

23/05/2026

The Kerala Basketball Association is set to organize its annual Referees Clinic at St. Ephrem’s Higher Secondary School from 23rd to 24th May 2026.

As part of its continued efforts to improve officiating standards in the state, the association conducts three referees clinics every year to provide technical training, rule interpretation, game management skills, and physical fitness guidance for basketball referees across Kerala.

This year’s clinic will place special emphasis on physical fitness and officiating standards. The Kerala Basketball Association has introduced a stricter fitness policy for referees, making two physical fitness tests mandatory every year for all registered officials. Referees who fail to clear the required fitness standards will have their officiating licence temporarily frozen until they successfully complete the test requirements.

The clinic will include sessions on switching mechanics, free throw administration, throw-in procedures, game situations, judgment training, three-person officiating techniques, practical court sessions, and fitness evaluation methods.

The programme will be led by Referees Board Chairman Rev. Fr. Philips Wadakkekalam and Technical Commission Chairman Mr. Manoj Xavier, who will guide the participants through both theoretical and practical sessions aimed at enhancing the quality of officiating in Kerala basketball.

The Kerala Basketball Association believes that maintaining high physical and technical standards among referees is essential for the growth and professionalism of the sport in the state.

The two-day clinic is expected to witness participation from referees representing various districts across Kerala.
