RELIANCE FOUNDATION JR. NBA PROGRAM TO ENGAGE MORE THAN 4.5 MILLION YOUTH AND COACHES

Reliance Foundation and the National Basketball Association (NBA) announced that the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA program, The main objective of the programme is to develop and promote youth basketball across the country and make a positive impact on the lives of Indian boys and girls. It’s expected that it would engage more than 4.5 million youth and 4,500 physical education instructors and coaches across 34 cities in the country

The Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA program tipped off at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi on Tuesday with “The Coaches Academy ” program. headed by Scott Flemming from USA former Indian Coach and Now the senior Director and operational Head of NBA in India. The coaches academy will follow at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode later after Christmas Holidays. Each participating school have received free of cost the essential equipment to encourage and facilitate participation among its students, including an India-specific coaching guide with curricula for in-school and after-school programs, basketballs, cones, and a Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA T-shirts.

Returning for the Fifth consecutive year, the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA program in Kerala tip-off with more than 300 PETS from Kochi, Thrissur, Alappuzha Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki schools participating in it these coaches trained at the Coaches Academy will execute basketball led PE/Sports classes for kids in their respective schools for a period of 8 weeks.

The program, which remains free for participants, will include a train the trainer initiative for local coaches, 5on5 Tournaments for U12 and U14 finals in each city featuring 5-on-5 competition and addition, each participating city will host three RF JR. NBA Skills Challenge which go through a circuit based basketball competition. Age groups: U14/U12 Boys & Girls

The All-Star Teams selected from state competition at Kerala will compete against 11 other teams at the RF Jr. NBA National Championship. (All-Star Teams: Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kerala, Punjab & 4 Regional All-Star Teams: North, South, East, West)

At the National Championship, players will be selected for a training camp that will immediately follow this competition. From this camp, 10 boys and 10 girls will be selected to represent JR.NBA India at the Junior NBA World Championship in Orlando. Age group: U14 Boys & Girls.

NBA International Basketball Operations staff will be based in each of the cities for three months to oversee the program
