RINGWOOD HAWKS MELBOURNE (AUSTRALIA) TO TOUR KERALA IN NOVEMBER

During the 125th birthday of World Basketball, Team Rebound & KBA joined hands to organise the Kerala Hoopathon wherein the game of Basketball was introduced to 12500 kids of 10-12 yr age by making them shoot 125000 points simultaneously across all districts of Kerala in 125 schools.

Kerala Hoopathon received a tremendous response and the target surpassed with 159620 points scored.

Now, Team Rebound has decided to extend the Hoopathon campaign for the sport across the entire

The state of Kerala with yet another new event.

Kerala State Women’s Basketball team had for the 1st time in 35 years won the Women’s National

Basketball championship in 2016-17. Further, 3 players Jeena Scaria, Grima Merlin and Anjana.P.S were members of the winning Indian women’s team at the recently concluded Level 2 Competition of the FIBA Asian Championships at Bangalore.

This has prompted Team Rebound to look at ways to help our women Basketballers with more exposure and competition at the international level.

Ringwood Hawks, Melbourne which plays in the BigV Basketball League in Australia will play 5matches against Kerala All-Star Women team at 5 cities in Kerala. During these match days, it is planned to involve all the Basketball loving schools /colleges with skill competitions in an entertainment format.

The events are being organised by Team Rebound under the auspices of the Kerala BasketballAssociation and approval of the Basketball Federation of India.

“It is our endeavour to organise this International Hoopathon Series as the beginning of the Roadmap for Team India to improve its standing at the Asian level,” said Mohammed Iqbal, President TeamRebound.

  • VKK Menon Indoor Stadium Trichur( Nov 7)
  • Indoor Stadium, Kottayam ( Nov 9th)
  • Jimmy George Indoor Stadium Thiruvananthapuram ( Nov 11th)
  • VKN Menon Indoor Stadium Calicut ( Nov 12th)

According to Mr P.J.Sunny, President of the Kerala Basketball Association, ” Such international matches will help the women’s basketball to grow further in Kerala and KBA is extremely happy to be joining hands with Team Rebound”.

This is the first time that Kerala is hosting an International Women’s Basketball event and is expected to draw full capacity crowds at all venues.
