INDIAN CONTINGENT ANNOUNCED FOR FIBA U18 ASIAN BASKETBALL

Sejin Mathew Finds his place in Final 12

Sejin Mathew from Kerala’s departed with the Indian Contingent to compete in the FIBA Asia U18 Championship that kicks off this Sunday in Nonthaburi Thailand.

The 16 teams which are grouped into four groups and all of their players will be taking the court on August 5 over the course of 7 days and 39 games before settling the claim for the best of Asia on August 11 in the Championship Game.

The top four finishers in the 16-team tournament will qualify for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019

India will face Chinese Taipei, Korea, and Syria in the qualifying phase.

India With an average height of 6-foot-4, and with six players standing 6-foot-6 or taller, this is definitely the tallest U18 Indian team we have ever fielded.

Iran is the defending champions

India’s first match will be against Chinese Taipei on the opening day the 5th August 2018

All groups will be seeing action across two venues (Stadium29 in Nonthaburi and Thai-Japanese Stadium in Bangkok) throughout the entire three days of the Group Stage.

Indian Team had Sejin Mathew who graduated from the NBA academy in NOIDA also had the major contribution from the NBA Academy which includes Principal Singh(C) and Jagshaanbir Singh (both from Punjab) Rajveer Singh Bhati(Rajasthan) Harshwardhan Tomar (Madhya Pradesh) Prashanth Singh Rawath (Uttarkand) Aravind Kumar Muthukrishnan (Tamil Nadu) other members are Prathyanshu Tomar and Prashanth Tomar(both Karnataka) Tushal Singh(UP) Abhishek Sharma (Delhi) Rajeev Kumar (Rajasthan)

The team will be coached by Aman Sharma (J&K) Assisted by Laldinsanga Hanging (Mizoram)

Dr. Prince K Mattom Hon Secretary of Kerala Basketball Association and Rakesh R from Karnataka will also be there in Thailand as Indian participation as Match Commissioner and Referee

· Group A -Iran, Japan Indonesia and Kazakhstan

· Group B – Lebanon, UAE, China and Philippines

· Group C – Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Bahrain
